Two strong right-to-repair bills are sitting on Gov. Ferguson's desk—and he needs to hear from you. The Washington legislature passed right-to-repair legislation for consumer electronics, which bans restrictions that keep people and local businesses from accessing the parts, manuals, and tools they need for cheaper, easier repairs. It also passed a bill affirming the right to repair for wheelchairs. Thanks in part to support from EFF supporters in Washington, both measures are now headed to Gov. Bob Ferguson.
Please urge the governor to sign these important bills.
The right to repair is good for individuals, good for small business, and good for the environment. Given the costs of new electronic devices, it’s also a pocketbook issue that more lawmakers should get behind.
To date, seven states have passed right-to-repair laws. Please urge Gov. Ferguson to sign both bills and make Washington the eighth to join this elite club. Let’s keep this momentum going!
H.B. 1483 and S.B. 5680 are Washington state bills. If you're outside of the state of Washington, please consider urging your state legislators to act on similar bills. Please sign up for updates from EFF for future opportunities to take action in your jurisdiction.
Thank You
